ABCD Orientation Follow-up and Training Invitation
Greetings to all
Our thanks to each of you who were able to attend our Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Orientation on October 20th! For those who missed the event, we’re sharing one of the outputs of that gathering for your information. In small groups we captured a number of perspectives on how the current system limits full community engagement. We also shared examples of how an ABCD approach could improve the level of citizen engagement resulting in mobilization of local assets to meet neighborhood needs and address community interests. Broad interest was expressed to participate in future trainings both on a community scale and within respective organizations—which was the primary purpose in conducting the orientation session.
Americans Building Community and the Fruit Valley Foundation are organizing efforts to offer a comprehensive schedule of trainings over the next year. We have scheduled two ABCD 101 Trainings this fall—one for November 20th and the other for December 4th—both on Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM with room for up to 30 attendees. An added bonus is that funds are available to subsidize the cost for these two sessions allowing people to attend at an amazing price of $25/person. Please share the attached flyer on the upcoming trainings with your colleagues. We’re planning another orientation session for after the 1st of the year as well—so stay tuned for more information on these upcoming opportunities.
Many inquired about the opportunity to meet with their organization’s leaders and/or Boards to share more information. Please call to discuss this option further and we can look at customizing an orientation that fits into your schedule and meets your interests along these lines. Our plans are to supplement the training offerings with experiential learning through ABCD model practical applications in association with the community development work currently being applied by ABC and FVF. We’ll be sharing a schedule of opportunities in the upcoming training sessions and via our social networking media tools.
We were encouraged by the display of enthusiasm present in the orientation! The opportunities for mobilizing the broader community are exciting and we envision much energy around seeking to identify creative local ways to serve needs and strengthen the service character of our community. I have also attached a draft MOU on the ABCD model that FVF and ABC are seeking to guide our joint investments of resources towards revitalization along the 4th Plain Corridor. We invite you to consider coming alongside us within this framework as we seek to make our neighborhoods a great place to live, work and play.
Again—thank you for joining us and we look forward to seeing you at future trainings and participating in community development ventures together!
Sincerely,
Mark & Greg
